Swimming Is Good For You?

Nina’s been going to the Fitness Center for several years, primarily to do water aerobics. There are two locations in Pocatello, one downtown and another further north (although nothing is very far away in Pocatello). The water aerobics classes have been all consolidated at the north location which has a larger pool.

Nina receives a bunch of guest passes each year when she renews her membership and has regularly invited me to go with her to the aerobics class which is held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday she would go to the pool to swim laps for about an hour. A couple of weeks ago I decided to go with her for the free swim.

The pool is nice, reasonably warm, and not crowded at 7 a.m. It turns out that I could only go three times on Nina’s guest passes, and I need to do something that resembles exercise, so I added myself to her membership. Yesterday was my first day at the water aerobics class.

The instructor is quite fit, and even that would be an understatement. She’s fun, energetic, and goes non-stop. The class started at 8:45 a.m. and continued without pause for fifty minutes followed by ten minutes of cool-down stretching. My arms felt like jelly when the class finished. Thank goodness there’s a nice hot tub next to the pool.

Tomorrow is a repeat.

I’m sure it’s good for me. I’m just sure of it….

A Better Direction, Regardless

When it comes to weight, I like less of it. Today’s weighin delivered, although there’s no good reason why! I’m down 3.6 pounds and 3.1% body fat since the last weighin, which was before I left for Jaelene’s. I’ll claim any victory, no matter how achieved! All of this happened despite this being Girl Scout Cookie week…. Those thin mints are still very good!

Overall, for two months of "work", I’m down 5.4 pounds and 6.1% body fat. The right direction but at much too leisurely pace.

Not Bad for Not Trying

The weigh-in this morning was better than expected. The direction was wrong — up 0.6 pounds and 1.2% body fat — but not badly wrong. It is certainly recoverable. Maybe I can stay on task this coming week? Stay tuned!

Possibly Retracked??

It’s an early Tuesday morning — not bright yet because the sun hasn’t come up. But it is capture the weight day. At least this week it is going in the right direction! Down 2 pounds and down 2.7% body fat. Can this happen two weeks in a row? I’m kind of doubtful.

Bouncing

Although getting food poisoning again isn’t my idea of how to loose weight, traveling is not the right way to keep weight off! Today’s results: +4.4 pounds, -0.3% body fat. That puts me at -0.4 pounds for the month of January. While the direction is right, the distance leaves a lot to be desired!

Weighty Matters

I guess getting food poisoning should have some side benefit! I weighed this morning and the results: -4 pounds and a 4.5% decrease in body fat. Now all I have to do is hold the line next week while I’m in Orlando at Lotusphere.

Mixed Results

Today was the first weigh-in of the new year and produced mixed results! I lost 0.8 pounds, but gained 3.3% body fat. I pretty much understand the weight gain or loss, but the body fat measurement is a bit less reliable in my opinion. The scale measures body fat by putting an electrical current through from one leg to the other. It seems that there are too many variables in this process for it to be a consistently reliable measurement. So, the year-to-date results are weight down 0.8 pounds, body fat up a total of 3.3%.

Because of travel schedules, I won’t be able to do another weigh-in for three weeks. Let’s see if we can get two weigh-ins in a row recording a weight loss!
