She was selling eggs at the Soda Springs Farmers Market for $2.00 a dozen. The eggs were wrapped in cellophane on a pretty red plate with a tag. She had gathered the eggs this morning and the last one was hard to find, she said. It was under the trailer and she had to crawl underneath to get the egg to make up the dozen.
I was intrigued by the green eggs … The only green eggs I’ve seen before were dyed in some fashion. She assured me that she had a chicken that laid green eggs.
So, I bought a dozen eggs and took a couple of pictures. She promptly began gathering things up to leave. This day she only had one set of a dozen eggs to sell and she was ready to go home. The market had been open for maybe 15 minutes!
Behind the smile are two missing upper teeth. She wouldn’t smile for me showing the gap, though. That wouldn’t be pretty enough, she said. My goodness, she’s going to be a real heartbreaker some day, I think.
