This stairway was originally built back in 1913 as a way to get to an outdoor dance pavilion on Pocatello’s west bench. A road goes around the hill and eventually to where the pavilion used to be, but many folks probably didn’t have a car and used the stairway to get to the dance pavilion.

The pavilion was in the open air with a covered area on one side. Sometime in the 1950’s it burned down and was never rebuilt. Today a housing development is going in where the pavilion used to be. The stairway still remains … a reminder of Pocatello’s past.
