The area between the garage and the front door of the house is a real problem area. The wind is predominantly from the south and swirls around in this area, dropping whatever is being blown. The window well fills up with leaves and junk over the winter. The area in front of the window well is another dumping ground. The plants I put in there several years ago have become too big. The nice pretty white rock has become very stained and ugly in the middle. It’s time to do something different.
This morning Nina started cleaning it out. She came in and announced that this was a “two person job.” We spent a great deal of the afternoon tearing out the plants, cleaning out the window well, and triming things down to size.
The rock has to go. The dirt in this area is very poor (the area was a dumping ground for lots of construction material and then was covered over with dirt). We’re thinking of putting in six inch rock wall along the sidewalk, filling it up with real dirt, and planting stuff that’ll actually grow well there and look nice. It’s only in the thinking stage right now. Something entirely different may happen instead!
